In the last two years, new developments taken place in Ethiopia have caught the attention of governments and academic communities worldwide. In cooperation with the Institute of Ethiopian Studies of Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), the Center for African Union Studies of Tianjin University of Technology and Education is sponsoring a call for papers relating to "Ethiopia Development Report: 2018−2019". The purpose of this call is to solicit high quality academic papers from scholars to address changes in Ethiopia in the years between 2018 and 2019. The call for papers is an initiative of the Center for African Union Studies of Tianjin University of Technology and Education and the Institute of Ethiopian Studies, Addis Ababa University to produce a regular (hopefully an annual) publication to update scholars and governments across the world about developments in Ethiopia. “Development” in this sense is widely construed to mean social, political, economic and cultural processes in the country. In this issue, the Institute welcomes papers on any of the following themes.
1. Political development
2. International relations/foreign policy
3. Economic development
4. Educational development
5. Social and cultural development
6. Other themes deemed as important as the above mentioned
Authors of accepted papers will be invited to present their work at a seminar that will be organized by the Center of African Union Studies of Tianjin University of Technology and Education and the Institute of Ethiopian Studies of Addis Ababa University on Semptember 29 in Tianjin, China. In addition, the papers will be published in "Ethiopia Development Report: 2018−2019". A modest honorarium will be paid to authors of accepted papers.
1. Deadline for Proposals
Authors should submit their abstracts of 300−500 words along with authors’ contact information by July30, 2019. The abstracts should be submitted to Dr. Desalegn Amsalu via e-mail panliang@tute.edu.cn. Please put “Paper Proposal” in the subject line.
2. Submission and Screening of Full Papers
By August 20, 2019, the Committee must receive the completed paper of about 8,000 words with a 200-word abstract. Each paper will be screened by the Committee to assure its quality of exposition and relevance to the call. The Committee may require further rewriting of the paper to bring it to an acceptable standard. A Committee member will be assigned to work with each author to monitor the paper's progress and provide general guidance in completing the paper within the specified timelines. Interim drafts, based on a schedule proposed by the author, may be requested.
4. Approving the Completed Paper
By August 31, 2019, all authors will have been notified as to the results of this screening process. Before that time, the Committee will try to give authors time to respond to comments from the screening process.
5. Presenting the Paper
Authors whose papers are accepted will be required to present their work at a seminar on September 29. Details about the seminar will be circulated later on. Each invited author should make every effort to attend the seminar and present his/her paper.
6. Submission Guidelines
Papers must be about 8,000 words. Authors must adhere to Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition.
7. Publication of Book
Selected papers will be published in "Ethiopia Development Report: 2018−2019". The book will be published in China, two co-editors one from China and another from Ethiopia. We are sure that this book will be very much needed and welcomed both in Ethiopia, China, and the world.
